The Amazon Echo family has a new addition – the all new Echo Spot. It’s a compact and stylish Echo – and this Echo has a screen! The Echo Spot enables you to take advantage of second-generation, far-field voice recognition to watch video briefings, see music lyrics, weather forecasts, to-do and shopping lists, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, and much more. And of course, you can do all of this hands-free. So, although it looks like a super smart alarm clock, it is actually a whole lot more than that.

Amazon Announces the All New Echo Spot
The all new Echo Spot has many different faces and uses

The new Echo Spot of course connects to Amazon’s cloud-based voice service, Alexa, to play music you request, read the news, answer questions, control your smart home, and much more. You can also control your smart home, with features such as turning on lights, showing baby monitors and front door cameras, locking doors, controlling thermostats and plugs, and more. You can read here about how much fun it is to control the incredibly versatile Hue lights with a Echo. And you can see a whole lot of the things the Amazon Spot can do in this video:

When you ask Echo Spot to use your Amazon Music to play a song, you can view the lyrics! Of course, as with Amazon Echo, you can also stream your music and books from Spotify, TuneIn, and Audible.

You can choose to use the built-in speaker, or you can connect your Echo Spot to speakers via Bluetooth or a stereo cable. You can even play your music on multiple Amazon device in different rooms. This works for Amazon Music, TuneIn and Spotify, but Bluetooth is not supported.

And here are some things that are new and super cool: you can use the new Echo Spot to message or phone anyone who also has an Echo device or the Alexa app. You can even use it to make video calls to family and friends with an Echo Spot, Echo Show or the Alexa app.

Alexa has thousands of skills, and is constantly getting smarter and adding new features. Alexa can track your fitness with Fitbit, order a pizza, get train times and much, much more.
